![]() The tests are automatic, and run for anything from 20 minutes to several hours, so I was not looking to fly via VNC, just set a test up and let it run. I have a spare computer which I run "headless" over Gigabit Ethernet. Running X-Plane remotely is something I do a lot when testing. So we don't know what will be possible in the not to distant future when X-Plane 19 is released. But then again, what was absurd 15 years ago was eminently possible five years ago and is now obsolete. Simply put, what you are attempting is currently impossible. Add to that the bandwidth issues that Lemon mentions, and you have a real nightmare of data processing and transmission. When you attempt to stream X-Plane across a home network, you take the graphics processing ability of your video hardware out of the loop. So the computer has to have all of the resources that it needs to do that, and that includes your video card. On the other hand, a simulation like X-Plane is created one frame at a time and then presented on your monitor. In other words, all the work of creating what you see and hear has already been done. Streaming video from the web or from other file sources involves transmitting images and sound that are already rendered. Video from a simulation like X-Plane is not the same as video streamed across a network. Network routing is simply not designed for continuous streams of data like that. Now I am pretty sure you don't have a connection that fast, nor a router that could sustain a load like that. It is likely you have a larger display than this. ![]() ![]() You would be much better off just using your 'Big PC' with a decent sized monitor and proper flight controls.Īlso, your bandwidth is definitely not sufficient. RD and VNC are designed more for remote management, access and administration of inaccessible systems.Įven if it did work, you would be getting at top a few frames per second. Remote desktop and VNC are not designed for external viewing of moving images, hence why those features are not activated.
